How We Authenticate Every Luxury Watch We Sell
At Solana Watches, authenticity is non-negotiable.
Every watch that passes through our hands undergoes a thorough authentication process before it is offered for sale. We stand behind every timepiece we sell with our 100% authenticity guarantee, and our reputation depends on getting it right every single time.

While the process outlined below is geared primarily toward Rolex watches, we apply a similar level of scrutiny to every brand we handle, adjusting our authentication workflow based on the manufacturer and model.
Step 1: Authenticating the Warranty Card and Accessories
Because most of the watches we sell include their original box and papers, the warranty card is typically the first item we inspect.
Modern Rolex warranty cards contain numerous security features and manufacturing characteristics that are difficult to replicate accurately. We carefully examine:
- The engraving of the model and serial number under magnification.
- The printing pattern and date section of the card.
- UV-reactive security features.
- Various areas of the card to ensure printing, texture, and layout match known authentic examples.
- The embedded NFC chip by activating it with an iPhone.
If the watch includes its original white hang tag, we also verify:
- That the tag corresponds to the exact watch configuration, including dial, bracelet, and reference.
- The printing characteristics and overall construction of the tag.
- The appearance of the green thread.
While paperwork alone can never authenticate a watch, it provides valuable supporting evidence and often helps identify potential issues before we even begin inspecting the watch itself.
Step 2: Verifying the Watch
Once the paperwork has been reviewed, we move on to the watch itself.
This stage involves a detailed inspection of the case, bracelet, dial, crystal, bezel, movement, and overall construction. Many of these checks are performed under magnification.
Our inspection includes, but is not limited to:
Serial Number Verification
We verify that the serial number matches across all available components, including:
- The warranty card
- The white hang tag (when present)
- The engraved rehaut
Crystal, Case and Bracelet Inspection
We carefully inspect:
- The crystal for chips or damage.
- The laser-etched Rolex coronet on the crystal.
- The crown guards and case geometry.
- The clasp and clasp components.
- The lugs and caseback for signs of tampering or previous unauthorized work.
- Bracelet code, screws, and construction details.
- The case engravings.
Dial and Hands Examination
The dial is often one of the most difficult components for counterfeiters to replicate correctly.
We carefully inspect:
- Dial printing quality.
- Hour markers.
- Hands.
- Date wheel printing and background.
- Overall fit, finish, and consistency with authentic examples.
Rehaut Inspection
Rolex rehaut engraving follows a very specific pattern.
We verify:
- The coronet is properly aligned at the 12 o'clock position.
- The ROLEX engraving aligns correctly throughout the rehaut.
- The engraving depth, spacing, and finish are consistent with authentic Rolex production.
Functional Testing
We thoroughly test the watch's operation, including:
- Manual winding.
- Crown operation.
- Date setting.
- Time setting.
- Date change function across multiple days.
- Midnight date transition.
- Bezel operation (when applicable).
During this process, we also look for unusual resistance, grinding, or other signs that may indicate internal issues.
Timegrapher Testing
Every watch is placed on a professional timegrapher to evaluate:
- Accuracy
- Amplitude
- Beat error
This helps us assess both authenticity and overall mechanical health.
Movement Inspection
Often times, we will remove the caseback and inspect the movement directly.
This allows us to verify:
- Correct movement
- Proper finishing
- Correct engravings and markings
- Consistency with the watch's reference number and production period
What Happens If We Have Any Doubts?
Not every watch passes our authentication process.
If we encounter any inconsistency, whether it's related to the paperwork, serial numbers, components, movement, or overall construction, we pause the transaction and conduct additional research.
If we cannot confidently verify a watch's authenticity, we simply do not buy it.
Our goal is not to authenticate as many watches as possible. Our goal is to ensure that every watch we offer for sale is one we would feel comfortable purchasing ourselves.
That philosophy is a big part of why our clients continue to trust us with their watch purchases, trades, and consignments.
Experience Matters
Authentication is rarely about finding one definitive clue. Instead, it involves evaluating dozens of small details that collectively paint a complete picture.
The vast majority of counterfeit watches fail in multiple areas when examined closely. By combining documentation review, physical inspection, functional testing, and movement verification when necessary, we significantly reduce the risk of anything inauthentic reaching our inventory.
When you purchase a watch from Solana Watches, you can do so with confidence knowing that every timepiece has undergone a comprehensive authentication process and is backed by our 100% authenticity guarantee.
